write speed of 6MBps or higherAll of these speeds are based on an empty card (no memory units occupied) write speed of 4MBps or higherClass 6 = Min. Disclaimer:I have not purchased this card, but I just wanted to let everyone know what the speed classes are for SD/SDHC cards:Class 2 = Min. write speed of 2MBps or higherClass 4 = Min.
I just noticed under "Technical Details" for this item that it has the specifications of a Class 2, but you can see on the picture of the item itself that it is a Class 4. DISCLAIMER: I don't own this product. If his camera is incredibly old it could be that, but it is not normal for any SD card to take that long, period, unless taking a 20 megapixel photo onto a class 2, and even then it wouldn't take that long. I know the write speed of Class 2 is up to 5MB/sec, and Class 6 is sustained 20MB/sec, so I would imagine a Class 4 is 10MB/sec (up to or sustained I don't know, probably depends on the quality of the card rather than the Class).30-75sec to store a picture is NOT normal, and is either a defect in the SD card or his camera. I read Steve Carmeli's review that sated he bought this looking for a Class 2, and this is a Class 4 and therefore slower. He must be confused or have made a typo because a Class 4 is better than a Class 2.
This could mean lost pictures as you wait for your camera to cycle. I purchased this Class 4 card thinking it was a Class 2 because it said "High Speed." Now, I don't know whether my Kodak Z712 IS is slow or this memory card is slow, but I tend to suspect the latter. Mind you, their tech support insists there's no difference, but I'm not persuaded. Spend a few extra buck and go for a video-class, class 2 memory card. Make no mistake, you will notice the time it takes to store a picture. We're talking about 30-75 seconds depending on the megapixel setting you select on your camera.
I have a Cannon Digital Elph and this was a great combination for recreational picture taking. It will STILL operate slower with the flas than without but not because of the card. You can forget missing as many pictures as you did with your old memory card. The speed on this was refreshing after missing many pictures due to slow write speed of other cards I've had.
